Weekend  Training

Ganaraska Forest Centre

.

The cadets had their annual October weekend in Ganaraska Forest on the 20 & 21 of October. There was the usual orienteering program and a night  navigation march through the forest however we had to limit some of our normal bush training program so the cadets would have a chance to participate in a new activity, “Trekking Through the Treetops”. This is something new and it has only recently been constructed and set up in the forest.

This is a new activity for the cadets to participate in and it offers some rather unique challenges as you can see from the following photos. There are in the trees numerous zip lines and obstacles to navigate across as you go from tree to tree. The challenges get higher and more difficult as one goes from one area to another, however there are  many different cable, rope and wood crossings and it would be difficult to describe them all but we have tried to show as many as possible in the photos. You can see in the last photo that once the cadets prove that they can do the course they end up a long way up in the trees for the final traverses and zip lines. If you check the other photo you will see that some of the staff also tried out some of the first challenges on the course. This new addition to our weekend in the forest probably means that we will not have to build an obstacle course in future years however the Chadburn logs will still be there.
