Thursday Evening Band Practice
Some of our newest cadets get started with their musical training
No one knows how successful our band will be in the cadet band and drill competitions coming up in the spring
but it would safe to say that with the turnout you see above and the quality of the music
there should be no doubt that we will be a strong competitor again this year.
Our band has now twice been the top military cadet band in the Province of Ontario.
As a result they have appeared twice in the International Military Tattoo in Hamilton.
Just in case you think we do not have a lot of fun in cadets take a look at two of our former bandsmen
that we caught up with last Thursday. Actually we have a number of these former cadet bandsmen that are now civilian volunteers.
Their help in teaching new cadets is one of the strengths in our band‘s organization.
151 Chadburn Squadron Annual Mess Dinner
A few things I’d like to talk about this week. I had the pleasure of corresponding with Major Ian DeCarlo this week. Major DeCarlo is a former Squadron Warrant Officer and is currently a pilot in the RCAF. I am very pleased to be able to announce that Major DeCarlo has agreed to be our guest speaker at the annual Cadet Mess Dinner on April 3rd. Having watched him grow in the Squadron, I am extremely interested in hearing some of the stories of his career.
Invitation To Our Squadron’s Annual Mess Dinner
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff and Cadets,
It is my pleasure to invite you and your family to 151 Chadburn Squadron’s Annual Cadet Mess Dinner. This dinner has traditionally been held mid-year to feature cadet achievements and to present a number of awards.
The dinner will once again be held at the Lviv Ukrainian Hall, 38 Lviv Blvd, (located off Simcoe Street South, one block north of Bloor Street) on Sunday, April 3, 2016. Doors will open at 5:15PM and dinner will be served at 6:00PM. The program will end at approximately 10PM.
Ticket price is $20.00 per person. If paying by cheque, please make it payable to 151 Chadburn Squadron. Tickets will be sold immediately following closing announcements on Monday nights up to and including Monday March 28, 2016. If you have any questions please contact Capt. Please note we will not reserve seating unless tickets are paid for in full. We recommend that you purchase tickets early as seating capacity is limited.

Military: Mess Kit (with miniatures) or DEU Number 2 (with medals)
Civilians: Business dress/ Semi-formal attire
This dinner is an excellent opportunity to meet our guest speaker and staff members. We value your continued support and look forward to seeing you there.

Thoughts From the Treadmill
This will be the final week for ski trip registration. If you want to go, make sure you speak to FSgt Barton on Monday night, Money for the trip will be required next Monday night, you will be contacted with the amount you owe.
It has come to my attention that some cadets have taken it upon themselves to leave certain activities early. I want to remind everyone, parents and cadets alike, that although the freedom of a new driver’s license is great (and quite often takes pressure off a parent to drive and pick up a cadet), it does not mean that you can just take off from an activity when you want. When a cadet attends a cadet function, whether it be
Monday night mandatory training, a dance, practice or sports night, they are covered by insurance for the entire activity. If that cadet leaves early, the coverage stops. That all seems pretty simple and understandable. The problem arises when another cadet leaves with them and all of a sudden it is a cadet driving another cadet during an unexcused absence from a sanctioned activity. There is no coverage for any of them then. This is especially bad when parents think their cadets are still at the cadet activity they were left at.
The question also comes up about receiving the same achievement points that someone who stays the entire night receives. It isn’t fair, and it stops now.
If you attend an activity and know in advance that you have to leave early, you are expected to inform the supervising officer at the beginning of the activity that you will be leaving early. It is not ok to leave for an hour and then come back. It is also not OK for a last minute decision by another cadet to hop in the car and leave as well.
