New Recruit Graduation Parade
Monday at Village Union Public School
Here they are! All of our new recruits who for the first time attended a regular Monday evening cadet training parade.
Monday night these cadets will be sworn in to the Squadron as air cadets. This is an important evening for these new cadets and
family and friends are invited to attend the graduation ceremony.
Squadron Remembrance Service
On the final Monday night before Remembrance Day the Squadron held its own short remembrance service at the
conclusion of our evening training parade.
Capt. Weigel provided the commentary and Sergeant Sigus read Lieutenant Colonel John McRae’s historic poem.
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields
The service concluded with the playing of the last post.

Remembrance Day Band Concert
Extendicare Nursing Home
It has become a Squadron tradition that each year on Remembrance Day the squadron band holds a special concert for the residents of the Park Road Extendicare facility. This is always a very emotional event as many residents are veterans. The cadets and residents have a chance to chat and share a snack after the performance.
Presentation of Additional Summer Camp Certificates and Badges
As more certificates and qualification badges arrive, we continue to present them. It is important that when you receive your badge, it is sewn on your uniform in the proper position.
Poinsettia Fundraiser
A reminder that Poinsettia order forms and money are to be handed in on Monday night. Cheques are acceptable and should be made payable to 151 Chadburn Squadron
Poinsettia orders will be available for pickup at the Squadron on Monday December 12 from 3.00 pm until 9.30 pm only.
Here are the flowers that will be offered this year.
Our Weekend in the Ganaraska Forest
Here are all the enthusiastic cadets and staff who spent the past weekend in the Ganaraska Forest. This is one of the squadron’s most popular activities,
and as you can see from the photos it is a rather demanding weekend. Cadets had a chance to compete in an orienteering competition that was laid out
in the forest, participate in a night march through the bush and learn about survival, fire building and how to secure and transport injured cadet should the need arise.
There was also our traditional obstacle course and the challenge of carrying one of our Chadburn logs up and down the hills in the forest.
For some of the new cadets there was also the opportunity to try out field rations used by the Canadian Forces.
Important Future Cadet Activities

This Past Wednesday Evening Boot Shinning Class
If your boots do not yet have a glass toe then this is the night for you.
Help is available to get your boots up to the Squadron Warrant Officer’s very demanding standard.
Thoughts from the Elliptical
There hasn’t been a whole lot of elliptical thinking going on recently as the busy time of year for the Squadron staff is definitely upon us. With the Remembrance Day parade and concert, The Duke of Edinburgh Silver expedition and our annual training weekend at Ganaraska Forest all falling on the same weekend, the draw on the Squadron staff and volunteers was incredible last week.
It still amazes me that so many people of different backgrounds with so many different skills can come together to make sure that our cadets are provided the best training and opportunity to participate in so many activities. We are very lucky to have so many dedicated people who are willing to give up their weekends to make sure these activities can run with the proper supervision levels, I would love to be able to thank them all individually every time they come out in support of our cadets, however I have a feeling that I would have a full time job doing nothing else but saying thanks. One of the nice parts for me about this little blurb every week is that I can publicly recognize those that put so much effort into our program.
We have just two weeks from this coming Friday until our annual Tri-Service Dinner and Dance. Reports form 2Lt Di Loreto are that ticket sales are a bit below previous years. In order to not be disappointed, I would urge everyone who is interested in attending the dance to bring their money in on Monday night. To avoid the mad rush at the end of the evening, 2Lt Di Loreto will be at the school by the attendance desk to sell tickets.
I really haven’t mentioned the poinsettia sales too much this year. We have been doing this fund-raiser for many years now and I can’t ever recall having any issues with the quality of plants we receive. I always get very positive feedback. So, if you are in the market for some great Christmas plants, make sure your order form is submitted to Mrs. Hurley tomorrow night at the attendance desk.
I don’t want to have to mention lottery tickets, but unfortunately it is becoming an issue that some cadets have not returned their tickets to Captain Chandler. Please get them sold and returned so that we can get it over and done with.
As I have mentioned, this is our 75th Anniversary year. If you know of any Squadron alumni, please point them in the direction of the Squadron web page and Facebook page. We would love to get in touch with as many people as possible to make sure that our celebration in June is fitting of such an important milestone.
That’s all for now.
Stay Safe and Have a Great Week
