Promotions
This week we would like to congratulate WO1 Christopher Abraham on his promotion and appointment as Squadron Warrant Officer, he is pictured below with Warrant Officer Singh who was filling in as the Drum Major on Monday night. A lot of very hard work has gone in to the SWO’s cadet career and we are all very proud of him on this achievement.

Battle of Britain Parade
Oshawa Municipal Airport
The Battle of Britain Parade and ceremony held this past weekend actually started for our squadron on the north side of Oshawa Municipal Airport. The airport management allows our Squadron the unique opportunity each year of marching across the airport runways to the south side of the field for the Battle of Britain remembrance service. All of this is accomplished with minimal interruption to airport operations. In the photo below you can see the cadets exiting the south side of the airfield.

Wing Commander Lloyd Vernon Chadburn DSO & Bar, DFC
As we remember the Battle of Britain and its impact on the history of the free world we should also take a moment to remember our Squadron’s namesake
Wing Commander Lloyd Vernon Chadburn, a pilot and an inspirational leader in the Royal Canadian Air Force who
lost his life in a collision over the beaches of Normandy on June 13, 1944.
Squadron cadets have now proudly carried the name Chadburn on their uniforms for over 70 years.

In recent years a number of cadets who were on school tours have had the opportunity to visit Chadburn’s grave in France and we actually have a rubbing of his grave marker (made by former cadets) on display in our cadet hall. In the photo above a member of our Squadron, Lt. Mastroianni had the opportunity to visit his grave in France and leave a small memento from our Squadron.

Message from the CO
Apparently I spoke too soon last week when I mentioned the school and that all the bugs had been worked out. For those parents in attendance last week who sat in the cheap seats above the half gym that we were allowed to use, I can’t say it will be any cooler up there this week, but we will have the use of the entire gym. Another “oops” is behind us and we will move onward.
I have already received one group of photos handed to me by a former cadet as well as a few sent by email to chadburn75@rogers.com , thanks to those who have taken the time to sort through their collections on pictures and shared. I know there are a lot more out there, please keep them coming. A committee has started up, led by Lt. S. Mastroianni, this will be the committee that explores options for the celebration of our 75th anniversary. Lt. Mastroianni will be looking for others to join in and take part in the process. This could be a huge undertaking and I hope that some of our alumni will come out and join in the fun.
Congratulations to Warrant Officer First Class Abraham on his promotion and appointment as the Squadron Warrant Officer, I have faith in your abilities, your integrity and your loyalty to Chadburn Squadron. I am sure that this will be a great year for you and the Squadron.
This coming weekend we will be holding our annual fall tag days in Oshawa. I would like to remind all cadets that they are representing the Squadron and the Air Cadet Program while they are out in public. Please remember to conduct yourselves in a professional and respectful manner at all times. For the last several years, I have received very positive comments from people that have interacted with our cadets on these weekends. Full participation by all cadets will make this another successful fundraising weekend. Funds raised on this weekend supplement the money we receive from the Rotary Club of Oshawa for our operating expenses.

Our 75th Anniversary
Memories from Our Past
As this is our 75th anniversary year we plan on including photos that illustrate the history and memories that were part of being an air cadet in 151 Squadron.
Here is our first photo that was taken during a cadet training exercise that was held annually in the west end of the Ganaraska forest 40 to 45 years ago . Today we still go each year to the Forest but now the training centres around orienteering, survival training, bush lore and cross country navigation. It has always been a strenuous weekend and is one that is fondly remembered by many cadets.
