(Stevenson Rd. just north of Rossland).
The dance starts at 7pm (please do not show up before!) and will end by 12am.
The cost for cadets is 2$ and 3$ for guests.
Canteen will be available for purchase at normal prices, and pizza will be available for 1$ per slice.
Summer Camps
We have had a number of offers of participation come through for our cadets to go to summer camp, and the offers keep trickling in. Parents, please remember that if your cadet has been selected for summer camp, their offer requires YOUR SIGNATURE before they are ensured a spot. If you have not signed your camp forms yet, please ensure you see Lt. Mastroianni or CV Glenn Weigel at the arena tomorrow evening.
Squadron Photos
Starting tomorrow night at the arena, there will be sign ups to order copies of this year’s squadron photos. Although no payment is required tomorrow night, please start thinking about which of the photos you’d like to have as a memory of the 2014-2015 training year.
Eastern Ontario Band and Drill Competition
CFB Kingston
This past Saturday our band and drill team competed in the regional band and drill competition in Kingston. The winners of the competition for top band and top drill teams have not been announced yet but the results will out shortly. In the photos that follow you can see all of our cadets who competed as well as the cadets actually competing in the competition.
Good News – We Are Back Flying Again
This past weekend the weather was just perfect and it gave us the chance to get our cadets back in the air in a powered aircraft.
The aircraft is a Diamond 40 It is a private aircraft owned and flown by Mr. Lee Arsenault.
The walk around and a prefight check then we are ready to go.
Back on the Ground After Their First Flight
On this weekend we also gave some of the cadets an opportunity to try their hand at controlling an aircraft using our Microsoft flight Simulator program.
To let everyone see the sophistication of the DA 40 we have included a photo of the modern “glass” instrument panel in the aircraft used to fly our cadets.

Thoughts From the Treadmill
Lots of thoughts this week, some are feel good, others not so much.
I was rather disappointed last week to learn that only 28 parents had been in to sign their cadets up for the year end trip. I then realized that part of the issue may be that we really haven’t let the newer cadets know what the year-end trip is all about. So here is a short rundown of what the cadets can expect.
We will depart Oshawa in the morning on Friday May 15th and make our way to Kingston where we will visit Fort Henry for the day. Cadet groups always seem to get a more in depth tour than civilians and it is always a great time. We will then head to Ottawa and our lodging location for the weekend. We will be staying at Connaught Cadet Training Centre which is where all cadet shooting courses happen. Cadets can expect to get a special tour of the Parliament Buildings, the Supreme Court of Canada, The Royal Canadian Mint and several museums (Aviation, War and the Museum of History). We will have some free time in the Byward Market as well as a night at the Kanata Wave pool. We will close out the weekend with a visit to the Diefenbunker in Carp before we start our journey home. I know that a lot of school groups do the Ottawa trip, but I truly believe that the trip we have planned will give a cadet the most bang for their buck and that the cadets who attend will have memories that they will talk about for years to come.
If your cadet would like to attend the trip, please go to the cadet hall on Monday night after you drop them off at the arena. We will have staff there to accept your payment and make sure the paper work is all completed properly. Staff will be at the hall from 7:00- 9:00 PM on Monday April 27th. CADETS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE HALL.
I would like to offer my congratulations to former Squadron Warrant Officer David Weigel on his promotion to the rank of Captain in the Royal Canadian Air Force. David is a Search and
Rescue Pilot and is currently stationed in Goose Bay. Bravo Zulu David
I was extremely disappointed to learn that a cadet’s wallet was missing after last Monday night. I am hopeful that someone may have picked it up by mistake and it will be returned with all of its contents tomorrow night. I would ask that all cadets and their parents please check any bags for a wallet that does not belong to them. I would like to remind everyone of the code of conduct that every cadet is mandated to sign upon enrolment and that theft is never acceptable. If a cadet is found to have stolen an item, there will be no lenience in any dealings with them and they will no longer be welcome as a member of Chadburn Squadron. I really can’t think of anything lower than someone stealing from a family member and I would hope that you all feel like you are part of something pretty big in the Chadburn Family.
I was at the retirement home where my parents just moved and as I was walking down the hall with a Squadron shirt on (seems like a lot of my wardrobe is Squadron related) the gentleman in charge of maintenance walking behind me asked “ is the 151 related to Chadburn Squadron?”. Long story short, it was neat to run into someone who joined the Squadron in 1979, which is the same year I originally became a member of this family. It is awesome to see that so many people in our community have a link to the Squadron and look back on their time as a cadet here with pride and a certain level of affection. 151 certainly touches a chord in many of us.
That’s all for now.
Stay safe and have a great week.
