Cadet Model Building Contest
Age Limits Junior 12 to 14, Senior 15 – 18
The Squadron is again this year sponsoring a plastic model building contest to encourage cadets get involved in an activity which is not only fun but an opportunity to learn about some of the world’s unique and historical aircraft. As in past years there will be a charge of $5.00 to participate however the Squadron will supply not only a 1/48 scale Revell model but there will also be a tube of glue included. There will also be prizes for the top model in each age category. The purchase and selection of paints will be the responsibility of the cadet. This year the Squadron will offer an introductory class in model building for those cadets who have perhaps never taken the time to get into the field of model building.
We have listed below the selection of models that are being offered this year. These models were selected by cadets from a list of 1/48 Revell kits that are offered on the Revell website. All of course are subject to availability from the warehouse in Toronto. Next Monday we will post a list of the models and cadets can sign up for a model of their choice. The $5.00 fee is payable at the time when the models are picked up.
USAF F-22A Raptor Lockheed P-38 Lightning
Hawker Typhoon Messerschmitt Me 262
F-104 Starfighter Twin Mustang
Just to provide cadets with inspiration and incentive we have included the following three photos of models that were built by cadets in previous model contests.
Floor Hockey
It does not happen every week but every once and a while drill team practices end up with an impromptu floor hockey session.
Soccer Tournament Pickering
Yesterday these cadets competed in a soccer tournament that was held in the Notre Dame High School in Pickering. The competition was sponsored by 856 Squadron and it involved cadets not only from the local area but Toronto as well. It was a lot of fun but unfortunately we did not manage to make the finals.

Thoughts from the Treadmill
We’ve had a busy week with preparation for not only two different competitions, but also the ongoing prep for the senior course interviews happening next Saturday.
The soccer team put up a valiant effort, but was not able to crack the top three in the competition in Ajax yesterday, congratulations on a great effort though.
Two shooting teams were entered into the Tartan Shooting competition yesterday, Team A finished in 3rd place and B Team finished in 5th place. Congratulations to all cadets who participated and don’t forget to keep practicing for the zone competition coming up in February.
We had our first planning meeting for the Squadron’s fourth ever Fund-Raising Golf Tournament which will be held on June 7th, tickets will once again be on sale very soon. We are going to be looking for sponsors as well as people to donate prizes for this tournament. Please keep a watch out for a letter coming home soon, this will explain how you can help with the tournament and also lower the price of your child’s year end trip.
Please remember that with the inclement weather we have been having to watch the Squadron’s web page for any cancellations, we will do our best to get the word out with as much notice as possible. Planning is underway for a spring ski trip. We should have details next week.
That’s all for now.

Miniatur Wonderland – Hamburg Germany
Just to encourage and perhaps inspire cadets in their model building efforts we have included a video which was made of the miniature wonderland that is located in Hamburg Germany. It is an unbelievable miniature display of life in Germany and Europe. It contains not only scenes of city and rural life but it as a fully operational airport and aircraft. If you would like to be
truly mesmerized by a model then click on the following video.
