The Squadron devotes two weekends a year to outdoor training in the forest. One weekend is open to all the cadets were the second weekend is for more advanced leadership training for senior cadets. The outdoor training courses are both designed to be challenging and demanding experiences for the cadets.[img src=http://chadburn.org/wp-content/flagallery/outdoor-training/thumbs/thumbs_ganaraska-ropes-2-16.jpg]
[img src=http://chadburn.org/wp-content/flagallery/outdoor-training/thumbs/thumbs_durham-forest-reading-compass-2-17.jpg]Outdoor Training B
Outdoor training not only involves a number of challenging activities but there is also a lot of emphasis on survival training such as building shelters and learning how to build a fire. The cadets also learn how to read a compass and navigate through the woods using contour maps. Once cadets become confident with a map and compass they can move on and compete in Provincial orienteering competitions.
